Myth- Autistic children cannot love someone with the same degree of affection and intimacy as others, and cannot have loving relationships in their life.

Fact- Early interventions that include relationship-based approach and comprehensive affect autistic children can learn to enjoy closeness, togetherness, affection and intimacy very deeply.

 

Myth- Autistic child cannot learn to work or behave fundamentally, or communicate with others and think rationally. All you can do it try to teach them but they will not remember it on long term basis.

Fact- These children can learn the fundamentals of relating, communicating and thinking on long term basis.

 

Myth- Children exhibit autistic type behavior such as persisting (like lining up cars or any other object over and over again) , self-stimulating ( i.e. staring at a fan or spinning.), or repeating words in a scripted way ( example. Echoing what someone else say)

Fact- All of these are secondary symptoms and should not be used as a primary criterion.

 

Myth- Autistic child cannot empathize with others as they do not possess any mind capacity to feel it.
