Primal therapy is a kind of psychotherapy that concentrates on helping people to feel connected to their most intense feelings and emotions. According to Dr (Prof) R K Suri, India's leading psychologist in Dwarka, Delhi NCR “Aim for the primal therapy is to help individuals overcome psychological issues by allowing them to share their feelings and emotions in a secure and supportive setting”. It is a kind of therapy that is focused on reliving childhood trauma in order to solve it. The concept of Primal Therapy is that neurosis and other negative signs of mental health are the results of unresolved childhood trauma.

Techniques of Primal Therapy

Although there aren't any official "techniques" for primal therapy, however, there are certain phases that you'll likely be working through. These stages include:

  • Regression: The concept behind Regression is that it is possible to revisit the traumatizing events of your past life. You might experience the same emotions and sensations that you experienced during these events. In this phase, it is essential to let yourself experience any sensation or memory that is present for you right now.
  • Release: In this stage, you'll be encouraged to voice your feelings and emotions as they come to the surface. This may include talking about crying, shouting, or even making noises. It can be uncomfortable, or even frightening at this phase. You may be able to feel the release of the buried emotions that were stored in your body throughout the years.
  • Integration: The process of Integration lets you begin to connect the various elements of your personal story. This is when you connect various events that have occurred in your life and how they affect your life. It is also a time to let go of yourself and other people for things that have been a part of your life.
  • Resolution: With Resolution, you'll feel the feeling of having closure on the issues addressed during the first therapy. It is possible that you're now free from the burden of your past and free from the burden of emotional pain that is unsolved.

Process of Primal Therapy

Under the supervision of qualified professionals, victims of trauma are advised to recall the painful episode(s) which caused the trauma. As memories of traumatic circumstances come up, Primal Therapy practitioners believe that the pain that is associated with them appears on the surface. The clients are instructed to let the pain surface, feel it, feel their emotions (toward the chair empty) and then let the pain go. Primitive Therapy techniques permit unspoken anger or rage to be released through venting their frustrations to the person or people they believe are responsible for their trauma. The people and the situations involved are symbolized by the empty seat in the primal session.

The Seven Stages of Primal Therapy

Primal Therapy has 7 dynamic, overlapping, and temporal stages. The stages are as:

1. Initiation: The client learns how to make contact with their real self and how to do primal work.

2. Alienation: The client feels separated from a network of social relationships, and from who he was before beginning the therapy.

3. Despair: The client enters to a distinct point of hopelessness and profound aloneness in the world.

4. Acceptance: The client begins to accept the painful reality of early life--that did not receive nearly enough sustenance and support.

5. Expansion: The Client looks inward and discovers a sense of greater personal insight, power, and overwhelming compassion, emanating from inside.

6. Integration: The client gives value to recently discovered feelings of personal power and compassion are now integrated into the personality, discovers how to live from this new identity.

7. Disengagement: The client now feels quite stronger, clearer, and more wholesome, complete, and is not any more dependent on the therapy.

It is the place where the familiar imagery of Primal Therapy becomes relevant. Your Online Counsellor or mental therapist will help you express all the emotions that occur due to reliving the trauma. It's not uncommon to see Primal Therapy clients punching at, punching, screaming crying, and screaming while they express years of unresolved anger and sadness over their trauma-related experiences. This expression of unhealed or repressed hurt during a Primal session can allow trauma patients to come out of their funk and heal traumas they have repressed and get on with their lives. This is the way Primal Therapy can offer a solution to your problems.

How Primal Therapy be helpful?

Primal therapy is used to aid those suffering from a variety of problems, including psychological issues like depression, anxiety, and anger, and clients with unresolved emotions from trauma. Primal therapy can also be utilized to treat physical signs that are believed as a result of suppressed emotions. Some of the symptoms treated with primal therapy can include headaches, ulcers asthma, back pain, hives, and even cancer.

Primary therapy can help individuals overcome childhood trauma, particularly instances of abuse. This could include physical or emotionally abused, sexual assault, or neglect. The primal therapy can be employed to help adults come to terms with memories that they've had in their minds since the time of their childhood. This can be as simple as the loss of an adult parent as well as emotional or physical violence, or even neglect.

Primal therapy can also be utilized to assist people in coping with the trauma of events throughout their adulthood. This could involve major life transitions or divorce, the loss of an individual in the family or a friend's loss of employment, or any other event that is traumatic that occurred in recent times. Certain people take part in the practice of primal therapy in order to deal with the emotions they're experiencing in these difficult moments.

Online Therapist

A few types of therapy that online counselors can practice include primary therapy that includes Cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as well as other therapies. Participants in online counseling experience a feeling of relaxation and a higher quality of life following regularly scheduled therapy sessions. Certain therapy methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy can yield outcomes for mental health clients. Cognitive-behavior therapy is another type of therapy that concentrates on healing with brain-based methods. In contrast to Primal Therapy which focuses on relieving pain stored in the body, cognitive-behavioral therapy concentrates on restoring the mind of negative beliefs, often referred to as maladaptive beliefs.
