Parkinson's disease is a condition where a part of the brain gradually deteriorates, leading to ever-worse symptoms. The senses, ability to think, mental health, and other aspects may be negatively impacted by this condition. It is most well known for its impairment of muscular balance, movement, and coordination.
Symptoms
- Tremor, characterized by a tremor in the hands that roll pills when at rest;
- Slow, sporadic movement (called bradykinesia and hypokinesia)
- Limb stiffness (rigidity)
- Difficulties with balance
- Gait (postural instability)
- Depression,
- Anxiety,
- Apathy,
- Hallucinations,
- Constipation,
- Orthostatic hypotension,
- Sleep disorders,
- Loss of smell,
- Cognitive impairments
Causes
- Some brain neurons experience gradual degeneration or death as a result of Parkinson's disease.
- Movement impairment and other Parkinson's disease symptoms worsen as a result of abnormal brain activity caused by dopamine deficiency.
- Parkinson's disease has no known cause, but there are a number of contributing factors, including Genes.
- Scientists have pinpointed the precise genetic changes that can result in Parkinson's disease.
- Although some gene mutations appear to increase the likelihood of Parkinson's disease, each of these genetic markers has a relatively low risk of the disease.
