One of the most important relationships in our lives is our relationship with ourselves. In the hubbub of our daily lives, we often feel overwhelmed and somewhat out of tune with our bodies, our surroundings, our wishes, and our dreams. Are we taking care of ourselves? Are we happy? At the very core of self-care are self-acceptance, self-awareness, and self-compassion.

While we often view self-care through the lens of our physical health, self-care as a concept deals with 8 different areas encompassing our physical, psychological, emotional, environmental, social, spiritual, professional, and financial well-being. In essence, self-care involves engaging in activities that help lift our spirits and rejuvenate our minds and body. Self-care starts with the body. We spend a lifetime living in our bodies, and yet very often we turn a deaf ear to what our bodies are trying to tell us. “Self-Care means really listening to your body, taking moments to check in, intentionally tuning in to the thoughts going on in your mind, and challenging your behaviors and belief systems if things feel out of alignment in your life”. - Kelsey Patel.

It is important to find out what makes you feel happy and more centered, and then actively think about how we can incorporate such activities into our daily lives. Check out a few important ways of taking care of your physical health:

1. Daily Exercise:

A daily minimum exercise should be routine to have a healthy and fit body. Exercise is not an activity to be done for weight loss only, but as a routine to maintain healthy living. You could practice any form of physical activity that you enjoy, be it yoga, playing a sport, or going for a run.

2. Maintaining a Healthy Diet:

Physical health requires a balanced diet and nutrition. Ensure that your food intake is balanced between proteins, carbs, vitamins, and minerals. Eating home-cooked and nutritious food ensures food hygiene.  In addition to your diet, ensure a minimum intake of at least 3 liters of water to keep you hydrated.

3. Speak to a Therapist for Online Counselling for Physical Health:

While we might be doing the best in our knowledge to maintain a healthy lifestyle, at times professional guidance could be that extra step of help. Connect with trained professionals, and online counsellors for online counselling for Physical Health while being in your home’s comfort and seek expert solutions for improving your physical well-being. Many e-platforms even offer online counseling for mental health too, as good physical health comes from strong mental health.

There’s no hard and fast formula for self-care, but rather, like any other relationship, it requires love, patience, and kindness to work its magic. As the saying goes, ‘An empty tank will take you nowhere; so take the time to refuel’.
